The Authors on Teacher-Student Relationships
It is true teachers should make an effort to engage their students. However, students should also participate in the class and by doing so, is able to propagate a good relationship with their teachers. There is no problem with teachers wanting to be friends with their students as they will most likely be with them for at least an entire school year so having a decent teacher-student relationship is necessary to make things easier. However, I believe there should be a balance. Like our parents, a teachers role is also to discipline their students but I find that that is something many contemporary teachers don't seem to understand & while teachers make the effort to befriend students, students should not be taken away by this treatment and forget the respect that they should keep for the teacher.

Yes, I do believe teachers and students can be friends, as long as no one abuses the friendship. Age is just a number and can't be considered a factor in making friends, furthermore, the student will be able to gain knowledge from the teacher's experience during their time in school and use that as guide on what they can do to make their school life lively. What more the bond you'll share with your teacher is one that is irreplaceable, it's like having an older best friend who'll help you throughout life.

Yes, it is possible that teachers and students can be friends. But I don't think that inviting teachers or students to hangout is a good thing like what friends do (for example). The level of friendship between teachers and students, personally, are on a different type where respect is the utmost importance of the kind of friendship both parties have. It's like a professional level type of friendship. This is also a matter of maintaining good, healthy interactions with both the teachers and students.

I personally think that students and teachers can be friends. As long as their friendship maintains professionalism and no other motives. As long as respect and integrity are present. There should be a certain level of closeness and formality inside and outside of the class, both should know their roles as student and teacher. As part of this relationship set -up, we can't deny the fact that there are others who tend to question the friendship that the student and the teacher have, but as long as the relationship is maintained professionally and appropriately then, there is nothing wrong with it.- Arabella
